Every student who walks through the doors of Saint George Academy begins a journey that is at once personal and shared.
From the first retreat in the Poconos to the last walk down Taras Shevchenko Place, the small Street Saint George Academy sits on, each moment here shapes not just what our students know, but who they become.

Each September, the entire Saint George Academy community — students, teachers, and staff — leaves the city behind and heads to the Poconos. For three days, the retreat becomes the heartbeat of the school year.

It’s where ninth graders are welcomed, seniors find perspective, and everyone reconnects not through screens or grades, but through laughter, shared meals, and open sky.

Days are filled with hikes, team challenges, and water rides. Evenings end around a bonfire, music echoing into the night. What begins as an icebreaker becomes something deeper — a reminder that education is as much about knowing yourself and others as it is about knowing facts.

Back on East 6th Street, that spirit carries into the year. Students walk past Saint George’s stunning Byzantine-style church — a masterpiece of iconography and light that anchors the campus in history.

Whether they step inside to reflect, sketch the gold-leaf mosaics, or simply take in the silence, it’s a place that reminds them what it means to pause, to see, and to belong.

At Saint George Academy, learning doesn’t end when the bell rings. It extends across the street, around the corner, and into one of New York City’s most dynamic neighborhoods — the East Village.

Here, every block tells a story. Students pass murals that speak of resilience, theaters that shaped generations of artists, and museums that preserve a shared cultural memory. The Ukrainian Museum — just steps away from campus — stands as both neighbor and inspiration, inviting students to explore questions of identity, art, and heritage.

Across the street, the Cooper Union represents another kind of possibility: invention, design, and the discipline of turning ideas into form. Plans for collaboration will open new doors for Saint George students — from workshops on creative problem-solving to access to maker spaces where art, engineering, and imagination meet.

Through our partnership with The Ukrainian Museum, students engage directly with the largest and most comprehensive collection of Ukrainian art and artifacts outside Eastern Europe. Working alongside curators, they explore iconography, textiles, and contemporary works that illuminate the intersections of art, identity, and resilience.

Our developing partnership, (anticipated launch in Fall of 2026) with The Cooper Union will expand that inquiry into the world of applied science and design. Known globally for its renowned School of Engineering, Cooper Union will provide Saint George students with access to advanced maker spaces, labs, and mentors—enhancing our four-year data coding sequence and deepening the bridge between creative thought and technological innovation.

Meanwhile, our dual-credit partnership with St. John’s University, allows students to earn college credit in courses such as physics, astronomy, and data science. This collaboration not only introduces students to university-level expectations but also underscores Saint George Academy’s commitment to preparing graduates who are intellectually confident and college-ready.
Together, these partnerships—artistic, technical, and academic—define an educational landscape where students learn to move fluidly between disciplines, connect creativity with precision, and approach the world with both imagination and intellect.
